30.06.2010- Style Radar: Karen Gillan

I've loved watching the latest series of Doctor Who, which has just ended its run over here. Each of the episodes was really well made and extremely well written; whoever came up with the idea of The Doctor moving in with James Corden in The Lodger is a genius, and the episode entitled Vincent and the Doctor, written by Richard Curtis is probably my favourite of the series (with the exception of the A-MA-ZING series finale.) Matt Smith and Karen Gillan in the lead roles of The Doctor and Amy Pond respectively have brought a youthful exuberance to the show, and the dynamic of having Rory (Arthur Darvill), Amy's boyfriend/fiancé/husband as a second companion brings the programme a really welcome humour. Off-screen, Karen Gillan has been proving her fashion credentials both on and off the red carpet, and I'm seriously adoring her style!

At the Sex and the City 2 London Premiere, in Louis Vuitton.

In Diane von Furstenberg at the BAFTA Craft Awards.

With Matt Smith at a Doctor Who screening in New York, wearing a gorgeous aubergine maxi dress.

New York promo tour again, in a black DKNY Jumpsuit. Love the accessories, especially the pastel green scarf.

Is that a Mulberry Alexa I spy? A girl after my own heart!

It seems I'm not the only fan of Karen, as she was recently featured in UK InStyle, sporting a pair of Miu Miu trousers (serious love) and killer Rupert Sanderson sandals:

I'm really excited to see how Karen's style evolves; she really knows her fashion, which is no surprise really as she was a model before she moved into acting. And Amy Pond is probably my favourite companion ever, mainly because of this:

What do you think of Karen's style? And who else is on your style radar?

30.06.2010- Fashion Moment: Kirsten Dunst

Kirsten Dunst was snapped out and about in New York last weekend, wearing a dress from Miu Miu's Spring Summer 2010 collection. I've always admired Kirsten's style, and a good few years ago now my friends and I met her by sheer chance in Selfridges shoe department! I think she looks great here, the frock is divine anyway but I love the way she's dressed it down for the street with a pair of black flats and sunglasses. Her haircut also works really well with this look.

What do you think of Kirsten's street style? Does she carry off the Miu Miu dress?

29.06.2010- Fash-ton-bury

This weekend, at Worthy Farm in Somerset, Glastonbury Festival celebrated its 40th birthday. I've got to be honest, I don't really see the appeal of festivals- I put this down to the fact that I hate camping and love showering, but there's no denying that Glastonbury is probably the biggest and best of the U.K's summer music events. Thanks to a weekend of glorious sunshine, the festival escaped the mud caked misery of recent years, and played host to some brilliant acts. For me the highlights (which I watched from the comfort of my sofa) included Florence and the Machine leading a chorus of Dog Days Are Over, Stevie Wonder belting out Superstition, Vampire Weekend performing Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, possibly the most summery song ever, and The Doctor collaborating with Orbital. However, with A-listers and fashonistas descending on the farm garbed in designer outfits, Glastonbury has become as much about the fashion as the music, amidst outcries that the festival has become 'too middle class'. Here then, are some Glastonbury looks from over the weekend:

Emma Watson, sporting an Alexander Wang side plait, was seen wearing Yves saint Laurent on Day One of the festival, with denim cutoffs and wellies.

Lighter denims and more practical footwear for Day Two as temperatures soared, top marks for casual cool. Also, on the subject of Emma Watson, how fantastic is the trailer for The Deathly Hallows, I cannot wait until November!

Pixie Geldof, black, socks, boots- maybe she has a very high tolerance for the heat?

Alexa Chung, the new face of Lacoste, in a Lacoste shirt and denim cutoffs...I'm spotting a trend here!

Florence Welch, typically kooky but that's why I love her.

Jameela Jamil, I adore this colour!

Alison Mosshart, rock star cool.

Ellie Goulding, in denim cutoffs (see!)

Shakira, wearing an Alexander McQueen vest.

Kate Nash, owww my eyes.

If they could guarantee good weather and a tent with an ensuite that didn't cost the earth, I might be tempted to give Glasto a go. Until then, I'm happy enough watching on telly with my feet up!

What do you think? Are you an avid festival goer? What did you think of Glastonbury this year?

25.06.2010- Vuitton Girls

Karen Elson, Christy Turlington and Natalia Vodianova star in the Louis Vuitton Fall 2010 advertising campaign, shot by Steven Meisel and styled by Karl Templer.

The 1950's inspired pieces really come to life through the composition of these images, and the sophisticated styling of each of the models really captures the spirit of the collection. What do you think?

23.06.2010- Summer Beauty

I was browsing flickr the other day looking at vintage photos and old fashion shoots, and I came across this pool of images taken by Tom Palumbo, a photographer and theatre director who in the 50's and 60's shot many features for Vogue and Harper's Bazaar in the United States. I was particularly drawn to the photographs he shot of his wife, model Anne St. Marie, as I think they really capture a sense of joy and escapism.

These images in particular struck me as they capture in an instant the many memories of summer and holidaying. The bright light really enhances the tone of the pictures and Anne looks so radiant, especially in the final photograph (I just love that you can see the beach umbrellas reflected in her sunglasses). I also love the swimwear Anne is modelling; she looks so glamourous and oddly modern, surely proof that a classic bathing suit never dates. If I look half as radiant as she does when I'm on my holidays, I'll be a happy girl!

You can find out more about Tom Palumbo by visiting Tom Palumbo Photography, or by looking through his wonderful work on flickr.

23.06.2010- Liberty for Target

Liberty of London have collaborated with US shopping giant target to create a range of clothing and homeware inspired by the grandeur of English style that Liberty has been synonymous with for decades. The collection sold out when it first launched, but now many items are back instock and available exclusively online. My favourites from the collection have to be these beauties:

Set of four Liberty Mugs, $19.99

Poppy Print Wellies (because I'm English!), $29.99

Sixty Bedding Collection, $49.99-$69.99

Darnley Ladies Cruiser, currently out of stock online.

How cute is this collection? I've been toying with the idea of buying a bike for the last year or so, and if I lived near a Target I wouldn't hesitate in snapping the Liberty one up in a heartbeat! To browse the whole collection visit Target Online
